  • Another query for Chase and Nick

I think we all agree that we're fortunate to have CAE and his staff, and we're happy he's not going anywhere. But could you please address here or on the podcast why the staff seems to be sooooo stubborn when it comes to Anderson? He comes in....and nothing good happens. Surely the coaches see that. Also, do we have a shot at a true point guard in the portal, and any ideas there? Thanks guys.

Ethan’s minutes are the result of recruiting misses at point guard, and risk adversity at head coach. Ethan has his limits, but he’s a known quantity. Andy prefers predictability over uncertainty. It’s the same reason he stuck with the two big lineup with Vez for big minutes, even after it’s been clear for some time that the lineup hasn’t worked nearly as well as it did earlier in the season.

Since they pulled Anderson for the remainder of the UCLA game at Pauley, that demonstrated they know he isn't working.

Reese likely would have got big minutes last night, but Ethan had to take them since RDW was out.

For the tourney, Kobe has to get EA's minutes at this point if you want to make any kind of run.

Dave, I echo what Chase said on this. The staff has a tendency to lean on experience and upperclassmen. That's another way of saying "Andy values predictability." It's why Reese couldn't get on the floor at the beginning of the year even though he's our fourth best player. Kobe might be a legit rotation guy by now had he played more than 50 minutes in our first 14 games. Over that same stretch, Anderson played 312 minutes. Not sure what the staff will do at the guard spots for next year, but there is reason to be concerned that they just aren't seeing it the way that Chase or I see it. Guess we'll have to wait and see
