A few disclaimers:
- It's now been 25 years since I coached; so I really apologize my missed or outdated lingo.
- I also apologize for any errors I make on the analysis; I did my best given the available footage.
- Because of the Helton years, I'm no longer as up to date on our personnel; I did my best; apologies for mistakes.
- This is my first crack at a video like this; so apologies for tech errors.
A couple major takeaways:
#1 On almost all of Tulane's big run plays, the 3-Technique DT (Telani) slanted away from what turned out to be play side; indeed, he slanted away from sides toward which it seemed more likely Tulane would run.
#2 The linebackers had major breakdowns on each of these plays; a lot of it was guys seemingly in the wrong position or using the wrong technique. In the case of Shane Lee, he simply cannot make tackles following a change in direction. That is clear from the video.
