  • Somebody knew something

So the way Vegas sets lines for college hoops games these days generally aligns with KenPom projections. KenPom projected SC to win this game by 7. But USC came into the game hot and Arizona came in having lost 4 of 5; plus, SC beat Arizona by 14 at McHale.

The odds makers set the line at 8. But it easily could have been SC by 10.

But in the last 48 hours a bunch of money came in for Arizona, moving the line to 5.

That is super odd. Why such a big bet on a reeling Zona team?

It seems like someone knew something. SC looked woefully unprepared for the game, almost as if Arizona had not been scouted.

A similar "episode" occurred at our originally scheduled Stanford (*away) game. I recall something along the lines of Stanford having favorable odds until it was revealed they would be playing without 3 starters and all the sudden SC has a "false positive" COVID test with NO OTHER rapid tests available at *STANFORD UNIVERSITY* of all places...

Seems a little daft to start making conspiracy theories... But its weird that its happened twice...

Ugly loss no matter the line.

Are you implying USC somehow threw the game?

This is just a guess but I wonder if the staff had to switch gears and put in some work and preparation for the Oregon/Saturday switch and that left them ill prepared for Az.

No, the reality would be much more nuanced, this isn't a movie with archetypical villains.

Something like Miller decided to spend the whole week peeping for SC instead of the bruins...

Or the sudden schedule shift didn't give us great time to prepare for the wildcats.

Regardless, that money came from somewhere - and either that person(s) is extremely insightful, extremely lucky, or must have known something the rest of us didn't.

That doesn't mean malignance... But it's interesting to speculate.

Not at all. Just that somehow info leaked that SC would not be ready to play.
