    Quick Look at the Roster for Next Season

    Because of the NCAA ruling on extended eligibility, grad transfer seniors Tahj Eaddy, Isaiah White and Chavez Goodwin are all eligible to come back next season and not count against the 13-man scholarship limit. Whether they will or not is another story; but they don't count against the scholarship limits, so I'm not going to include them with the discussion of scholarship allocation.

    For the remainder of the roster, if we assume (and it's a big assumption) that Evan is the only player we lose, then we look to have 12 of the 13 scholarship spots filled for next season; here they are by category:

    First Time Freshmen
    1. Malik Thomas
    2. Kobe Johnson
    3. Harrison Hornery

    Second Time Freshmen
    4. Boubacar Coulibaly
    5. Reese Waters

    Transfer Sophomores
    6. Joshua Morgan
    7. Kaelen (KJ) Allen

    8. Ethan Anderson
    9. Max Agbonkpolo

      I should probably add that, given USC is probably losing the most impactful freshman in the country, and the status of SC's clear second best player Tahj Eaddy is uncertain, trying to forecast next season is very difficult.

      Based on what's been made public about recent offers -- Norcross HS senior Jaden Harris and Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett -- SC clearly appears to be looking for a combo guard for next season. Is that because they are assuming Tahj is gone? Make no mistake, USC could really use another combo guard right now who could defend and hit open 3s; but SC already has Waters, Thomas and Johnson for next season.

      Does the pursuit of Harris and Burnett mean USC is (also?) not sure about Ethan Anderson going forward? Ethan has had some important games recently, and Enfield doesn't hesitate to give him critical minutes and talk him up in the press. But Ethan has struggled since coming back, shooting under 25% from inside the arc.

      Assuming Isaiah Mobley comes back, he and Drew Peterson should be anchors for the team. If Tahj returns, he'll be the best player. If Isaiah White returns, he'll start and give the team toughness, maturity and energy.

      Right now, I'd say the best case scenario is that Tahj, Chavez and the two Isaiahs all stick around, Ethan gets himself into much better shape, and either Boubacar or Josh Morgan really steps it up. Beyond that, adding another perimeter scorer would be big.
