  • On-Court / Off-Court Plus-Minus for the Arizona, Colorado & Utah Games

This cover the three losses. Everyone was negative, but some were quite a bit worse than others. Isaiah W. was clearly the best; Noah clearly the worst. Ethan, to me, is most surprising. Evan, obviously, has really struggled in these three games, where SC was outscored by 39 points -- the exact number of Evan's +/-: -39.
    .
    Player +/- per Poss +/-
    Isaiah White -0.09 -10
    Ethan Anderson -0.13 -15
    Drew Peterson -0.14 -15
    Isaiah Mobley -0.17 -16
    Chevez Goodwin -0.17 -13
    Tahj Eaddy -0.19 -29
    Evan Mobley -0.22 -39
    Max Agbonkpolo -0.28 -21
    Noah Baumann -0.43 -15

      A few thoughts here:

#1 I really like a lot of what Chavez has brought to the team this year, and I REALLY hope he's back next season, and it's certainly true that part of why his +/- is bad is because he plays minutes in place of Evan Mobley; BUT .... BUT ... Chavez is not a good defensive player around the rim and he's down right bad at guarding pick'n'roll on the perimeter.

#2 IF ... and it's a huge IF, we can get our guys (sans Evan) to return for next season, I really, really think the best starting lineup would be one where Isaiah M. stars at the 5, and Isaiah W. starts at the 4. That lineup won't be as strong at rim protection, but I think it'd be the best lineup we could start.

#3 As for the rest of that starting lineup: well, Tahj is clearly the biggest piece. Is there a decent shot he returns? Who knows? But, if you start with a starting five of Tahj and the Isaiahs, it'd be great to get Drew Peterson coming off the bench, and fill in the other two perimeter spots with newcomers, perhaps one of the freshmen (incl. Waters) and another transfer. I don't think we necessarily need a dedicated point like Ethan if you have a trio of guys who can handle the ball.

#4 As the season has worn on, the numbers have slid for Max. For a long time, he could hang his hat on his strong plus-minus numbers. That's not so much the case anymore with his per possession plus-minus slipping below Baumann's. Max needs to step up BIG TIME, and I mean BIG TIME, next season.
