More summer fun…. Let's countdown the All Time USC Hoops teams, 4th team down to 1st team. These teams are based on college performance only, no NBA accomplishments. We will go with 2 guards, 2 forwards and a center on each team, and not delineate between point and shooting, or small and power. Most of the guards and forwards could play both. Some guards played some forward, and some forwards some center, but let's not nitpick.
HONORABLE MENTION
Guards: Brandon Granville, Mack Calvin, Boogie Ellis, Dan Anderson, OJ Mayo, Desmond Farmer, Don Carfino, Jonah Matthews, Gabe Pruitt, Jacque Hill
Forwards: David Blu, Pervis Miller, Allen Young, Drew Peterson, Taj Gibson, Mo Williams, Bennie Boatwright, Jerry Nemer, Joe Mackey, Lorenzo Orr
Center: Brian Scalabrine, Nick Vucevic, Roy Irwin, Onyeka Okongwu, John Lambert
ALL TIME USC HOOPS, FOURTH TEAM
Guards: Mo Layton and Nick Young
Layton was the catalyst on the best SC team ever, and Nick Young was a supremely talented player that helped SC dig itself out of the Bibby collapse. Led the conference in scoring in 2007, the first since Harold Miner and only the 6th ever.
Forwards: Derrick Dowell and Ronnie Coleman
Two undersized forwards that played in the dark days of the end of the Morrison era and the Start of the Raveling era. Coleman is second on the all-time scoring list, shooting 54% over four years, and Dowell is 10th on the all-time scoring list, 8th on the rebounding list. He hung a 24-21 on UCLA at Pauley in 1985.
Center: John Block
Operated in the shadow of the blossoming Wooden dynasty, In his three years 7th on the all-time scoring average list, 6th on the all-time rebounding average list. Had the best season ever statistically when he average 25 points and 11 rebounds per game in 1966, a season where he scored 44 and 45 points in a game, the two highest game totals ever at SC (Miner is third with 43). Led the conference in scoring and rebounding.
