  • Vince Iwuchukwu

All, we wanted to get the posts ramped up to complement the podcast (hoping you have enjoyed those).

I'll start with Vince Iwuchukwu, who could be on the verge of committing to USC. He may be a top 10 player in the class and is currently sitting just outside the top 10 in the recently updated ESPN and Rivals Rankings. Would expect him to be a one and done.

In the clip above (the Top 100 Camp), he shows an expanded game. You can tell right off the bad he's a lob threat (9 second mark), but also shows improved core strength and the ability to get to his spots (15 second mark). Around the 20 second mark, he shows a good drop step and touch and scores easily over Zach Keller (A top 100 big). Right after that (38 second mark), he gets matched up onto a wing, shuffles his feet well and swats him at the rim. Then at the 42 second mark, he rotates over from the weak side in help defense and blocks the ball around the top of the square.

In the clip below (The most recent clip), he showcased his decision making, lateral quickness and touch.

At the 20 second mark. He catches the ball, shows patience and waits for the one on one, takes 2 dribbles and then finds the open man for the dunk when the double starts to come. At the 40 second mark he sets a ball screen in a pick and roll play, gets the ball in a 2 on 1 after the defense blitzes the ball screen and then finds the open guy. What most impressed me though is the clip after that (46 second mark), he gets put in pick and roll defense, slides with the guard on the perimeter, and then rotates back to swat the big at the rim. He also slides with the guard really well at the 2:17 mark. Throughout the film, he also shows great touch. Really good offensive rebounds and easy put backs from the 1:15 mark to 1:40 marks. There's plenty more that he flashes in the clip, but he also can score over guys pretty easily on post touches.

    To sum it up:

    1) He shows a much improved offensive game when isolated one on one, with great touch and solid decision making.

    2) He has lateral quickness that I didn't think he had. Not Evan Mobley level but similar to that of Onyeka Okongwu (Who was really underrated as a space defender)

    3) He shows great upside as a weak side rim protector and can anchor a defense.

Reminds me a lot of Big O, but he's 7 feet tall. Not trying to say he's the next Big O yet, but there's a lot to be excited about here.

Vince will be somewhat of a breakthrough recruit for the program -- a 5-star with no other connection to the West Coast. Kevin Porter was in effect a 5-star from outside SoCal ... but he was from inside the Pac-12 footprint. Elijah Weaver was a top 40 recruit, but not on the level of Vince I.

Welp, if this in fact does come into fruition we can all once again Thank Eric Mobley

Brandon Jenkins from 247Sports now has us getting him on his Crystal Ball.

Edit: So does Jamie Shaw from Rivals. Jamie Shaw also correctly predicted Kijani Wright to us.

Yes, Vince is on commit watch. Has been in the works for a while but it sounds like word is starting to leak out from Vince's camp.

Also, I'd watch what happens to his composite ranking when 247 updates their rankings. He and Oziyah Sellers will get a boost, Kijani Wright will fall. Julian Phillips will also likely get a boost. Very good chance that Vince ends up a top 10 or top 15 composite player this year

Yeah I listen to yours and Chase’s podcast so I already heard that it sounded like we were getting him.
