  • Has USC's offense been "figured out"?

    It's a question worth asking.

Through the first 9 games of the season, which takes you through the win in Tucson, USC's offense had an effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) of 55.2%. To give you some perspective, that would rank USC in the Top 10 among all Power Conference schools. No. 1 is Gonzaga, No. 2 is Baylor, No. 3 is Virginia, No. 4 is Michigan, No. 5 is Creighton, No. 6 is Iowa, No. 7 is Villanova. So this is basically list of the top teams in the country.

Through that Arizona game, USC's eFG% was 55.2%. That would place SC just behind Villanova, which is at 55.9%.

However, since that Arizona game, and starting in Tempe, SC's offense has really struggled (save for the Washington game). In the five games played since Arizona (including that Washington game), USC's eFG% is 47.6%.

To give you an idea of how drastic a drop that is: 47.6% eFG% would place USC in the bottom third of all D1 schools nationally. So, it's really bad, and a scary fall from Top 10 among Power conference schools. Yes, it's only 7.6 percentage points -- but those 7.6 percentage points among to almost 10 points per game.

Ten points of offense per game is a lot to lose.

eFG% was 47.4% vs Cal. So the struggles for a sixth game.
