  • When Does SC Announce Melton’s Ineligible?

Seems pretty obvious at this point. Are we gonna wait until opening night?

  • #2
Why not wait? What purpose does announcing it do in reality? Maybe we are working out a resolution with the NCAA and aren’t completely ready to announce.

Are we sure he's ineligible? I guess we'll know by the first game.

I would assume they pull him until a final word from the NCAA, but thankfully with some big teams on the list and nut just USC it will be done sooner than later. My guess they wait a month to show they are in charge

          This article was interesting: https://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa-facing...185747712.html
Sounds like the FBI isn't sharing any of it's intel to the schools or the NCAA any time soon. Could take a couple of years to shake out. I've also heard that schools have been told to not investigate until the FBI is done. So do you play Melton and just wait for the NCAA to rule him ineligible 2 years later and vacate wins? Maybe USC looks at what others have done in the past and get him/his family to pay back the money and sit out say 10 games and hope the NCAA accepts this self sanction at a later date. If the schools caught up in this were smart, they would get together and do the exact same thing. Thankfully there is power in numbers and the NCAA will be less inclined to go after them in a big way.

While it does seem that Bland might be guilty of at least communication there is no evidence that money has
been paid to players. And it has been denied by the families.
If the players are innocent, it puts them in an unfair position by the FBI. As in this case they are presumed
guilty for the way the NCAA handles things.
It puts the program at a risk as mentioned above of forfeits.
So the FBI is wrong in expecting the schools for not investigating for it is
ruining their season and their programs without valid proof.

Exactly. All that we know is that someone tied to that player met with Dawkins. That is not an NCAA violation by itself. Even if money exchanged hands, there is still some ambiguity for one of the players who was at the meeting. Should a player get punished because someone in their "family" took money to influence them?

We also should watch what other programs are doing.

              Alabama hasn't suspended Collin Sexton.
              UofA hasn't suspended anyone.
              Auburn hasn't suspended anyone.
              Miami hasn't suspended anyone.
              OSU hasn't suspended anyone.

Has he been practicing or is he completely separated from the team at this point?

Interesting who starts if he's out--Thornton or Mathews?

Solid depth on perimeter this year. IF Melton has to sit and miss extended games, I'd think the perimeter rotation could be:

                    Jmac/ Thornton
                    Stewart / Matthews
                    Aaron/ Usher or Obannon

                    JMO.

Assuming CAE does use a 10 man rotation of sorts.

Looks from this link like steps could be taken for Bowen to become eligible. Hope movements are made for Melton too.

Maybe we should relay this article to our athletic dept. I really don't trust our leadership in our athletic department. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Auburn had to suspend their players as it is clear based on the specific dates and comments which players were involved. The players also can't shout ignorance as they are directly involved in the meetings and payments.

I'd be more interested in what Alabama does because their situation is the closest to USC's.
