Are you with me that (1) we're not as good as we hoped and (2) our ceiling isn't close to as high as last year?

Not Chase or Nick but 1) I actually think we have over achieved so far 2) We lost the NBA rookie of the year. What did you expect?

Also not Chase/Nick, but in the AP and advanced metric spheres, we are actually almost exactly where we thought we would be going into this season - a fringe top 25 team. I think we all hoped that we would be there by playing a little better basketball, but we are in the spot we expected.

Early in the season our expectations may have gotten "over-hyped" since Mobley and Chevez were playing better than expected - but conversely, Ethan and White have failed to meet their preseason expectations. Drew continues to be streaky, Max has improved - but isn't the knock-down shooter we hoped for in the pre-season, and the frosh have failed to make substantial contributions.

My biggest concern is puttering out the rest of the season and failing to make the tourney, which would be a disappointment.

To answer your second question first, I'm not surprised, but I think some thought at the beginning of the season that we'd be as good or better. On the first issue, it's great to have won 19 of 22, but we mostly haven't looked great doing it, and it's been against less than stellar competition. And just for the record, I'm not a hater -- I've had season tickets for close to 40 years.

I don't think much about the overall trajectory has surprised me. We benefitted from a soft schedule with an experienced team that isn't as talented as many of the elite teams. Younger teams with more talent have caught up to us. Our ceiling is nowhere near as close to as high as last years, but we're still a solid team. I kind of view this team as a 7 seed that will lose in R1 of the tournament. We are the type of team that goes out early (bad guard play, no NBA first rounders, better early than late). Without Chevez or Isaiah we're going to need to add a lead guard out of the portal to remain competitive at the top of the league. Vince and Kijani are good players but we won't be able to run offense through them the way we can with Isaiah and Chevez

David, I actually think we are about where we were expected to be. Arizona has been a surprise, and we obviously played a real poor 2nd Half against Stanford at Galen. I think we're still looking at a 4th (or maybe 3rd) place finish in conference.

But, I definitely agree that our ceiling is not as high as last season.
