"Lincoln Riley will, more often than not, end up with an NFL gig at the end of next season" [paraphrased]
One question: what in God's green earth, after watching the last few pitiful USC football performances, would possess ANY poor NFL GM to think Riley is an NFL caliber football coach?
That was an emotionally charged question. However, I think it's entirely reasonable. Riley can *coach an offense*, he's got some clever plays, he's got a sharp mind for the game, but he can't coach a *football team*. The last few games have showcased lack of toughness, lack of attention to detail, lack of discipline, unwillingness to adjust to opponents, and failure to execute in positions. There is no culture of accountability or daily improvement, and he broadcasts that in his presser. You can't win in the NFL with cute plays alone.
We have some stud kids in this roster, a shame we're only a average team.

This was another outstanding podcast. Great analysis and insight. The basketball part has me pumped for season.
The football part is frustrating because many of our current problems seem fixable if Riley were up to it. The NIL and demographic problem, however, that is going to be a long term problem. It’s amazing that we may have a structural advantage in basketball now over football.
question: how are other schools able to offer big NIL deals to top 20-100 type OL and DL prospects when we can’t? Is their compliance just not as concerned as USC? Maybe there will laws that clarify what schools can and can’t do.

I think the idea with Riley would be that he already has familiarity with Caleb and you’ve seen these offensive guys have success recently (McVey being the poster child). Appreciate the kind words! On the NIL front, it’s definitely a compliance issue. Texas A&M and Oregon have no issues and have dared the NCAA to call their bluff. I think the NCAA is powerless and got destroyed in the Alston case at the Supreme Court. Beyond that, they have no subpoena power to investigate private bank records, so I have no idea how they’d even police pay for play.Originally posted by 90089 View Post
